Only The Brave: a movie review by 9-year-old MissObservation

Hi everybody! Welcome! My name is Phoenix and today I’m going to be talking about the movie called, “Only The Brave.” My daddy took me to see this movie in the theaters because we really wanted to see a movie. Also because it was the only movie that was playing that wasn’t rated R. But we also didn’t know what it was about.

It turns out this movie is based on a true story. And it’s about firefighters who fight forest fires in Arizona. I learned a lot about how to fight forest fires in this movie. And I thought that was the cool part. Like, did you know forest fires need oxygen and wood to burn. So the fire fighters have to be really smart and know where the fire is moving so that they can go to that spot and get rid of all the trees and all the grass until it’s just dirt and then they create a fire line so that when the fire gets to that point it will stop and it won’t burn anymore. But, sometimes the forest fires are really big so that means they cross the line and go a little bit further than they expected so the fire fighters have to be prepared and plan ahead so that means they have to go a couple steps back and move further away from the fire so that then they can burn some of the forest so that when the big fire gets to that spot it can’t burn anymore because that part is already burned.

You all know how dangerous fires are right? Well, imagine a fire as big as an entire city. And the fire fighters have to go and fight it. That’s why they call it, “Only The Brave” because the fire fighters have to be really brave. So this movie is about a group of real life fire fighters who live in a town in Arizona and they’re trying to become Hot Shots, which I guess is like the best fire fighters. And this next part is kind of a spoiler alert but not really if you know what the movie is about. There was a really big forest fire and all except for one fighter died in the big fire and it was really sad. Part of why that was so sad was because all the fire fighters had wives, children and families and they were all crying, like I was. And I didn’t even know that was a true story until after the movie.

Overall I think this movie is OK. I learned a lot about forest fires and I have a lot of respect for the men and women who fight them, and their families. This movie only had a little bit of bad language and it was very sad. But other than that I think your kids can so see this movie. So yeah, that’s pretty much the end of my review for the movie called, “Only The Brave.” Thank you for watching I’ll see you next time, good bye everybody!
