Night Knight by Owen Davey: a children’s picture book review by 9-year-old MissObservation

Hi everybody! Welcome! My name is Phoenix and today I’m going to be doing a book review on the picture book called “Night Knight” by Owen Davey. This is another book I like to read to my baby brother, Zephyr, and it’s all about the adventure of going to bed.

The main character of this book is a little boy who has a really good imagination. And, right before it’s time to go to bed he imagines that he’s a knight and he’s on a special quest. You can tell that he has a really good imagination because on the front cover he’s a knight, but he’s really just a little boy with a pasta bowl/pot thing on his head.

This book has great illustrations because every book that my mom gets has great illustrations. But I like how the author used his imagination because it looks like a forest but it’s actually the little boy’s hallway in his house. And you can tell because there’s a potted plant and one of the trees is a coat hanger because you can see there’s a hat right there. I also like that there’s a fox right here because it looks like my Shiba Inu named Kitsu.

I also like this spread because the little boy’s brushing his teeth and he’s imagining himself jumping on the heads of alligators and I thought that was kind of funny. But this is my favorite spread because the little boy’s in the bath but he’s imagining himself in an ocean. And he’s swimming right up here with all the little fish and there’s crabs, turtles, snakes, and a really cool octopus. And they all have really cool designs on them. And here’s his little boat. And my favorite part about this spread is the plug comes right down here for the bath and that’s super funny.

So if you like picture books that are beautifully illustrated and tell a cool story and that have big imaginations, be sure to get this one. Also, if you know any other children’s picture books be sure to let me know in the comments below. So yeah, that’s pretty much the end of my review for the book called, “Night Knight” by Owen Davey. Thank you for watching. I’ll see you next time. Goodbye everybody!
